Hildring House – Mastering the Master Bedroom

Hildring House Master Bedroom

I’m pretty sure I did a post way back there somewhere about the sad state of our master bedroom…. and because this is real life (as opposed to HGTV) it is still in a ‘not ready for photos’ state. There has been progress, and I’ll show you some snippets and the “plan.” Keeping in mind that all “plans” are a moving target around here! Dan here – in italics, as usual – “plans” around here change right up until the minute you drive the nail. And sometimes after. But the results usually are so good that I really can’t complain.

Hildring House Long Overdue Laundry Room Post

First Hildring House Project Completed

Four months and many many dollars later… the laundry room is “finished”…. well, as finished as anything ever gets with me around. [This is Dan – I’ll be chiming in occasionally. Just can’t help myself, you know. I have to agree – “finished” is euphemistic for “reasonably satisfied for the moment but don’t get too used to it.”] So here is a long overdue laundry room post – with some good pictures by Trey Freeze.

Hildring House -Beginning to Turn the Corner

The Pretty Pictures that sandwich this post are from the Dallas Arboretum and were taken during the summer of 2015. They’re apropos of nothing in the post, really. But I’ve been talking to some landscaping folks and it made me think of summer in Texas and the fact that you really can grow things in 100+ degree weather. Here’s Debra:

And now, on to Hildring House, where things are beginning to turn toward the finish line (no, really, that’s not just wishful thinking!). Continue reading “Hildring House -Beginning to Turn the Corner”

Hildring House – Stuff is Happenin'

I love architectural contrast. Since Debra has decreed at least two “pretty” pics per post, I’ll use some of that contrast for the first one. This shot is – obviously, because of the iconic CN Tower on the left – in Toronto, taken from the the St. Lawrence Market area looking back downtown.

Now, let’s see what’s going on at Hildring House –

Hildring House – More Demo and a Little Progress

Sometimes, “natural demolition” – usually gradual neglect and disuse – leaves a beautiful structure. Take, for instance, this abandoned church in Howth, Ireland:

The demo at Hildring House is not so elegant. Nor, however, is it intended to be. Things are moving right along, though. Let’s take a look.  Continue reading “Hildring House – More Demo and a Little Progress”

The Heart of the SoMoToHo – The Kitchen – Part 5 of Many – Let There Be (Natural) Light

Natural light. There really isn’t any substitute. Here is a building that we stumbled into in Budapest, I believe, in which the entire ceiling was a skylight.2013-08-30 06.33.42And here is the auditorium of the public house in Prague, where natural light rules, despite the prevalence of available electric illumination:2013-09-05 03.30.40 Before we get to the SoMoToHo, I hope you’ll bear with me showing a couple more travel pics.
