Just a quick report on the Earthy Modern Boho progress: we’ve made a few large purchases and a couple of small tweaks and I think it’s coming along nicely. The space, itself, is taking shape – just a few more things coming in, and then we’ll get to my favorite part — moving things around and styling.
Out of the Starting Gate
Just to refresh your memory, the befores are here. This canvas wasn’t blank and we had a really good place to start, don’t you agree?
First, we added legs to the amazing vintage cabinet that sits between the fireplace and the kitchen, adjacent to the dining table:

Isn’t it a cool piece? Originally, it was difficult to see because it sat so low. Now, the legs bring it up and allow it to show off. We ordered the legs from Etsy and the homeowner attached them. Those birds (cockatiels?) would be amazing even if they weren’t family heirlooms. Originally there was a top piece to the cabinet, so the top is unfinished – still up in the air about putting a finish on it or leaving it raw with this burlap cloth.
More of the great legs (everyone loves leg shots, right?):
Those sweet leather feet! A perfect touch!
Adding Some Weight
One big purchase was this gorgeous chair from Article

She brings a lot of wonderful color and a, well, presence to the space. The chair comes with side pillows but I like the it best without them. Besides, this way, it’s large enough to seat two. Here’s another shot:

That cute little Moroccan tray table to the left of the chair (on the right in the picture) is attractive and useful and fits the space nicely but it’s pretty wobbly…. I’m trying to come up with a way to stabilize it. And no, the lamp is not staying- this space calls (begs, pleads, yearns) for something different.
These shelves were another major addition to the room. They integrate so perfectly that, now that they’re here, I can’t imagine the space without them.

We still have a bit of styling to do on them, but they’re coming along nicely.
The table to the left of the sofa (right in the picture) is also a family piece (hand made!) and it works well in the room. A new coffee table is on the horizon, as is (probably) a bottom rug layer for softness. The one in the pic is a vintage Etsy find and it brings a nice dose of pattern and texture to the room.
Let’s Not Forget the Accents
Of course, new accent pillows are in the works. Here are some fabrics that we are considering:

And Certainly Don’t Forget the Dining Chairs
These vintage Milo Baughman dining chairs were a real find:

Sexy, aren’t they? Also, the seat height works perfectly with the slightly tall dining table. The fabric is in pretty good shape; recovering is an option but that decision hasn’t been finalized. I love contrast of the shiny legs against the rustic table.
The Wider View
Here is an overview shot:

More artwork to come. One of the homeowners is a photographer so there are lots of wonderful things to choose from that will really personalize the space. Here is one piece I really love:

Also, the homeowner has commissioned a painting for the large wall that you can’t see in the view, above. I can’t wait to see what the artist creates.
I’m loving the progress here. More importantly, I think the homeowners are loving it, too.
Keep coming back for more Earthy Modern Boho progress reports – subscribe and we’ll shoot you an email whenever we post one – plus, be on the lookout for some Hildring House final(ish) photos coming soon (no, not the whole house – just the parts we’ve finished!).
Let me know what you think!

Debra
